Dr. Jane Goodall brought along a surprise guest when she joined Tom Mangelsen at his family cabin in Nebraska last month to watch the crane migration–Dave Matthews! Each March, thousands of sandhill cranes arrive in the Platte River valley to feed in fallow fields before continuing their northward migration. During the day, Tom and Jane watch the cranes feed and dance in the fields. As the day draws to a close, the two of them take a short hike towards the river.
