East Africa’s reputation as a classic photography destination is well earned. Immortalized by countless wildlife films, it needs little introduction. It is blessed with an abundance of spectacular wildlife, colorful cultures and lavishly gorgeous and photogenic landscapes. Everywhere you go the people are friendly and welcoming. Game reserves are magnificent, filled with all manner of wildlife and vegetation, beautiful lakes and beaches, and sweeping vistas that seem to go on forever. AfriChoice and their great guides, who Tom Mangelsen has traveled with before, will be our outfitter. We are sure you will be delighted with this Safari in East Africa!

On this photography safari, you will explore East Africa’s famous wildlife sanctuaries and discover the world-renowned biodiversity and cultures that these countries are famed for. This photography safari is designed to maximize your photographic opportunities and the trip specializes in getting you in the right place at the right time to create the perfect picture. Our emphasis is photography, and LOTS OF IT! It is also an excellent opportunity to discover and learn.

We’ll be photographing the Amboseli on the foothills of Africa’s highest mountain–Mt. Kilimanjaro, Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti National Park, while staying in secluded game lodges and private tented camps of Northern Tanzania. One of the best aspects of this trip is that we are only allowing a total of 12 participants plus Tom Mangelsen and his assistant. There will be a maximum of three photographers per vehicle with one professional wildlife guide. This means that each person will have an entire row to themselves with one additional seat for their camera gear. There will be plenty of room to move around and everyone will have perfect access to all photo opportunities.

Participants will be waking up in the early morning hours to take sunrise photos and then staying in the bush late for sunset photos. The goal is perfect light and great images so all decisions we make are around optimizing your photography experience. During the middle part of the day and at night we’ll take a rest at our lodges and bush tents. Early morning and afternoon game drives provide ideal shooting conditions, with an emphasis on good light and great subjects.

This safari will be very informal and fun, an ideal situation to maximizing learning. Tom has selected these locations because they are some of his favorite places in Africa. This safari will provide excellent opportunities where the participants can learn specialized photo techniques including composition, exposure, creative filming techniques, action shooting, and animal behavior. Advanced techniques can be discussed, demonstrated, and put into practice. The length and small number of participants on this safari will allow ample time for Tom to interact with everyone and help improve their skills no matter what level of expertise. Because of the unique location of this photo safari, this adventure is open to spouses as well as photographers. Even non-photographers will find the locations visited and the wildlife viewing opportunities ultimately thrilling.
